AES Alamitos
Long Beach is home to our AES Alamitos facility — a 2,000 MW, natural gas-fueled power plant, one of the largest in Southern California.
An important source of clean and reliable electricity, AES Alamitos generates enough power to light some two million California homes and businesses, and helps create hundreds of direct and indirect local jobs.
We’re currently working on plans that would modernize the plant by installing new, more efficient and attractive technology.
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
To help clean and protect the environment, we’ve installed over $23 million in state-of the-art emission control equipment, reducing local NOx emissions. We’ve also installed $2 million in new ocean water intake screens, and are working with environmental groups to clean local waterways.
DEDICATED TO THE COMMUNITY
AES Alamitos is a regular contributor to worthwhile community service groups and projects, including Save the Bay and local after school programs. But we give more than financial support. Our workers volunteer to help improve people’s lives, showing "the power of AES people" in a variety of ways. Some of our community outreach projects and support for non-profit organizations include:
In October, AES Alamitos received an Appreciation Award from the American Cancer Society. AES regularly donates to this charity and supports its mission of eliminating cancer and improving the quality of life for those facing the disease. The American Cancer Society was founded in 1913, and is the most experienced and largest non-profit cancer fighting organization in the world.
COMMITTED TO SAFETY
Safety is a top priority for AES Alamitos — for our workers and our neighbors. We’re proud that we haven’t experienced a single Lost Time Accident in over 12 years.
