SUSTAINABILITY
Here in California, we generate enough electricity to power more than three million homes and businesses.
CLEANER AND GREENER
To help meet California’s renewable energy goals, we’re developing new solar and wind power facilities that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 55,400 tons a year — the equivalent of taking 15,000 cars off the road. Thanks to these projects and our ongoing efforts to modernize our natural gas plants, the energy we provide keeps getting cleaner and greener.
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
To help clear the air, we’ve installed over $52 million in new emissions control technology at our natural gas facilities, reducing emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx).
We've installed special “velocity caps” on our water intake systems to protect local marine life, and invested over $5.5 million to help restore the Huntington Beach Wetlands. We also provide funding for The SEALab in Redondo Beach and The Living Desert in Palm Springs, bothinteractive projects designed to foster a deeper appreciation for California’s living creatures and natural beauty.
LIGHTING UP LIVES
Our plants employ hundreds of skilled California workers, and help sustain thousands of additional jobs for our contractors and suppliers. We pay nearly $23 million annually in local taxes, payroll, goods and services. We’re equally proud of our “hands on” commitment to the communities we serve, where we contribute over $350,000 annually to local community groups and events.
